Dear Participants in the Spring Convention
of Libertarian International, The Spring Convention of the Libertarian International will be conducted in Bulgaria, a country which for one half of a century walked the road to serfdom to its very end. During that time the communist leveling machine leveled all individuals in the country despite their desires. The State existed for its own sake, the Government – for the sake of authority, and violence – for the sake of violence. Freedom was slavery. War was peace. Ignorance was power. During the fifteen-year period after the fall of Communism democracy - in Bulgaria and the other East-European countries - was restored. Not Freedom however which, to us, is a higher good. For that reason in 2003 we founded the Bulgarian Society for Individual Liberty in order to work for the wider acceptance and better understanding of the values of freedom – the inviolability of everyone’s dignity, property and life, individual responsibility, equality before the law, unrestricted economic opportunity and competition. The Bulgarian Society for Individual Liberty is most radical in its defence of the individual rights and the free market in Bulgaria, notwithstanding the fact that other institutions, research centers, foundations and individuals are also active in this area. Like us, they have dedicated their efforts to the ideas of a free market, limited government in a society of free and responsible individuals. This type of organizations are even more numerous in the other European countries and the world. In 2005 we will meet once again in order to widen our network and improve the contacts between us, and to discuss important questions: Why Freedom makes its way into our lives so slowly? During 2005, the year of Ayn Rand, we are bound more than ever to defend Freedom. We can achieve this by discrediting deceitful information, wrongful representations, and patent lies concerning the freest society – the capitalist one. We can achieve this by insisting that governments respect our individual rights and do not restrict our economic initiative and competition. We can change the countries we live in by limiting the governments which govern them. For the purpose at hand it is necessary that we share all our ideas and unite all of the resources which we have accumulated over the years pertaining to the dissemination and development of the ideas about the free man and the free market. From April 2-3, 2005 we will have the opportunity to do this. The Spring Convention of the Libertarian International is open to managers of think-tanks and institutions, to representatives of academic and business communities, experts and journalists, and everybody else who wants to make the world more free We are expecting you. See you soon in Sofia!
